What is Virtualization?

by Chris on November 11, 2011

There are thousands of companies domiciled here in Grand Cayman. Many of which have relatively small headcounts; by way of staffing. As a result, what personnel there happens to be based in the offices are focused on the money making initiatives; whether that be fund accounting, trading and auditing on the financial services side and lawyers, attorneys and barristers on the legal side.

More often than not, us poor IT guys are merely an after thought. With larger onshore offices handling the infrastructures, development, networking, testing, implementation and so forth, there can often be fledgling departments, and only essential personnel, on hand to assist with help-desk queries and user set up.

The smaller companies therefore will tend to either outsource their IT requirements to a consultancy or they will hire a hybrid member of staff; someone adept at the basic IT requirements, whilst focusing on their primary business need.

It is these companies, that will often approach me and ask about technology, future developments, programs, software and so forth. One of the more frequent requests is about Virtualization. i.e. what is it, what are the main programs and who are the main market players?

Without wanting to harp on too long with techno jargon – I’ve simply attached the wiki definition of Virtualization. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtualization. Next week I’ll be able to go into more detail on the main protagonists.

Fortunately Virtualization is one area (of many) in the industry that CML has a vast array of top quality candidates, so if you do feel a need to bring someone on board, on either a short term contractual assignment or on a permanent basis, this is definitely something that we’ll be able to help you with.
