Despite rising work permit costs and recent campaigns for greater transparency threatening the future of the offshore market, the Cayman Islands has not seen a dip in foreign workers numbers. In fact, there are more expats than ever arriving in Cayman.

So let’s look at some of the different factors that keep people motivated on a daily basis at work:

Stability – Certain people are driven by the feeling of stability and knowing that their role in the office is secure. Whether this be for the individual’s future or the need for stability to maintain a family.

Praise – There are many people who thrive on the opportunity to impress others and feel a sense of validation from their employer. While you might think that everyone one wants this occasionally for their own ego, some people actually NEED this in order to progress.

$$$ – Of course the most common form of motivation are those who are motivated by monetary rewards and benefits. People with this personality trait tend to do well in bonus or commission lead environments.

Career advancement or prestige – Many people are driven by their end goals and where they see their career progressing. These people are usually part of a small group of people who feel that it is their own responsibility to keep motivated at work rather than the responsibility of their employer. They have an inner-drive which keeps them going.

Happiness – This group of people need to enjoy their job in order to feel motivated and successful in their work life.

So my thoughts on this is that if you are a manager take the time to understand your employees and what makes them feel valued, as inevitably if your employees feel valued and of course motivated it can only help to benefit your business.Take a look at your resume… Does it need some work??

However, you can’t leave all the motivation down to your boss! Think about what motivates you and identify what YOU can do to improve your job satisfaction and overall happiness in the workplace!
