Holding Permanent Residency in the Cayman Islands?

Here’s What You Need to Know to Stay Compliant.

It’s important to remember that Permanent Residency comes with ongoing responsibilities. Missing just one key requirement could put your status at risk. Here’s a quick reminder of what you need to stay on top of — and how the team at CML can help.

Annual Declarations and Fees — Due Every Year on Your Permanent residency Anniversary

Once your Permanent Residency is granted, you are required to submit an annual declaration and pay the applicable fees every year on the anniversary of your Permanent Residency grant date. This obligation continues until you receive Caymanian Status, even if you’re not currently working.

It’s a common oversight — especially for people taking a break from employment — but unfortunately, it’s one that can lead to major issues. A missed deadline could result in penalties or even revocation of your Permanent Residency.

We recommend setting calendar reminders, and if you ever need help tracking or submitting your declaration, our team is always here to support you.

Only Work in the Role Approved in Your PR Certificate

When you’re granted Permanent Residency, your certificate will clearly state the occupation you are approved to work in. If your career path changes, or you’re offered a different position, you must apply for a variation of conditions and receive approval before starting the new role.

Working outside of your approved occupation — even temporarily — is a breach of your Permanent Residency conditions. But don’t worry, we’ve helped many clients successfully apply for variations, and we’d be happy to walk you through the process.

Know Your Conditions — and Protect Your Permanent residency

Please be aware: Permanent Residency can be revoked if conditions are not met.

That’s why it’s so important to:

  • Stay on top of annual declarations and fees
  • Only work in the occupation listed on your certificate (unless a variation is granted)
  • Take the time to carefully review your approval letter and any conditions attached to your Permanent Residency
