Choosing the right career can be very satisfying if you’ve made the right choice.
Many candidates have worked with our dedicated recruiters in order to pinpoint their career paths and jobs. To choose the right career foryou, you will have to determine your start and end goal. Why? You won’t be satisfied climbing the ladder if it is leaning against the wrong wall.
From my experience, starting a career in HR and Recruitment was the right choice for me. However, choosing a career took some time. You see, at first, I wanted to be a forensic pathologist. But as you can probably tell, I’ve chosen a different route because it’s one thing to choose a career and quite another to pursue it.
These days, we are faced with many career choices; Pilot, Chef, Florist, Salesman, Banker, Lawyer, Boat Captain, Artist; The list is endless! Don’t be intimated to choose only one career path. The reality is that many of us have many different callings, and you can experiment with more than one.
First things first, you may want to consider your interests, skills, personality and work-related values. It may be best to sit with a professional recruiter or career guidance counsellor to map out your interests as well as short-term and long-term goals. This first step is a self-assessment, and with your recruiters, you will be able to learn how these topics play a role in choosing a career.
While considering different options, it is also important to research each career that you may be interested in. This allows you to understand the roles and activities involved if you go down that path. Later, you can make an informed decision as to which career you choose and why it would be your best option.
Education also plays a vital role in getting the right job in your chosen field. Pre-requisites for different jobs are often the qualifications you must hold before being able to practice in that field. Therefore, you should also research specialized courses at different institutes, find out how long they’ll take you, and if further studying will be required after you complete your initial degree. In accounting, for example, depending on your work area, you may be required to attain a professional designation.
Lastly, after completing your self-assessment and research, the next step in choosing the right career is to narrow down your options. We know narrowing your choices down can be pretty tricky. It may help to seek insight from people in the professions you are considering or speak with your recruiter to gain a realistic idea of the role.
You may decide on a career that makes you happy for 10 – 15 years and then decide to try something new. That is perfectly okay! It’s all about you making decisions that will make you happy.๏ปฟ
